Long Term Substitute Positions
Autumn Lane Elementary School|Spring 2014
How long should an activity take? How do you push a student to create more complex work? What to do when a student finishes early or rushes?During this placement, I focused my teaching practices on pacing within a lesson. Pacing in a lesson I find comes with experience. This placement allowed me to develop and implement strategies that dealt with these questions.
Before leaving this placement I was able to teach my own printmaking lesson about symmetry to Kindergarteners. It was left as a display to welcome back their teachers.
Brookeside Elementary School |Spring 2015
During this placement I really began to develop and implement a strong classroom management style. I created various systems for attention grabbing phrases, instructional cues, and procedures for how to retrieve and clean up materials. Such as a call back system, where I would speak out “Marco”, and they would display their attention back by saying “Polo”. During this placement I also focused on refining making assessment strategies for various assignments.
